NATIONAL GALLERY – OLD CITY HALL

White ink and charcoal on A3 black paper

The National Gallery sketches are the first two that I combined white ink and white charcoal. I added white charcoal as I find that white ink is too stark against black for white concrete buildings. I personally like the effect from the mixture of these two medium.

Counting and drawing the majestic pillars of Old City Hall is quite a bit of fun, making sure I didn’t add or minus any. This is a mix of the Old City Hall building and also the new version of National Gallery. I couldn’t decide which one to draw as there are certain aspects I like about both. So I took the liberty as an artist to pick and choose. Perhaps you might be able to differentiate which is old and new. 😄

I am captivated by the majestic presence of the Old City Hall that speaks of authority. The Scripture verse “Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool.” – Isaiah 66:1 came to mind several times reminding me of the sovereignty of God. I sense such deep peace and this peace comes with a good governance that I can trust. Thankful for this blessing.
