I wrote a series of devotion for my church on the Seven Last Words of Jesus for this Lent season and sharing them here. I am happy to discuss the answers to the questions in the comments below. So feel free to engage me in a dialogue. =)
Seventh of Seven Last Words of Jesus
Luke 23:46 (NASB): “And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.”
Theme: REUNION
Read: Luke 23:44-46.
- What does this last words of Jesus tell us about His relationship with His Father?
- Why do you think Jesus shouted this statement out loud and not whisper it as a prayer between Him and His Father?
JESUS’ TEACHING AND APPLICATION
Read John 14:1-6.
Jesus declaration is more than just a statement that He is going back home to His Father and He is not condemned to hell as the death on the cross would signify. When placed in light of what He told His disciples about His death, this reunion with His Father is for a greater reunion. The story of Jesus did not end here but in His resurrection & coming back again. His coming back is for a greater reunion that He has been working on and still is.
- How real is Jesus’ promise of a place in His home in your life? How much of your decisions in life is made based on this promised end?
- How will your life look like if most, if not all, of your decisions in life are made with this end in mind?
REFLECTION & MEDITATION
- Ask the Lord to help you internalize this promise into your spirit with conviction that our end in Him is of reunion and rest in Him. Allow the Holy Spirit to search within the things and reas that are not aligned to this end, and maybe even distract you from entering into this promise. Submit yourself to the Lord in obedience.
SONG OF MEDITATION
Till I See You https://youtu.be/DsGF9xJl9ZY
The greatest love that anyone could ever know
That overcame the cross and grave to find my soul
And ’til I see You face to face and grace amazing takes me home
I’ll trust in You
With all I am I’ll live to see Your kingdom come
And in my heart I pray You’d let Your will be done
And ’til I see You face to face and grace amazing takes me home
I’ll trust in You
I will live to love You
I will live to bring You praise
I will live a child in awe of You
You are the voice that calls the universe to be
You are the whisper in my heart that speaks to me
And ’til I see You face to face and grace amazing takes me home
I’ll trust in you
You alone are God of all
You alone are worthy Lord
And with all I am my soul will bless Your name
You alone are God of all
You alone are worthy Lord
And with all I am my soul will bless Your name
